COA (Certificate of Analysis)

What is COA ?

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) in a QC microbiology lab is an official document that confirms a batch of raw material, finished product, or culture medium has been tested and meets all safety and quality specifications.

What it includes

Sample Details: Batch/lot number, manufacturing date, and expiry date.

Test Parameters & Limits: Tests like Total Aerobic Count (TAMC), Yeast & Mold (TYMC), and pathogen screening (E. coli, Salmonella, S. aureus).

Observed Results: Exact colony counts (CFU/g) or qualitative outcomes (“Absent” / “Complies”).

Sign-off: Final approval signatures from QC and QA teams certifying the batch is safe to release.

In short, a COA acts as the official “pass certificate” for regulatory compliance and product safety before distribution.
